For the past year I may have not posted any new blogs but I did come up with many ideas in draft form; nothing seemed “right” to post. What does one do if writing doesn’t seem to be working for the moment? If you are like me, when all else fails…you read. I ended up reading many books, mostly in e-book form, to gain knowledge, courage, faith, and inspiration.
My first readings were of familiar authors, Dr. Wayne W. Dyer, Deepak Chopra, and Don Miguel Ruiz (The Four Agreements). When you read authors for a second or third time, you see and understand more than you did the first time. I still didn’t feel ready to post anything. I continued to read.
I read other well-known authors for the first time. They included Eric Butterworth, Emmet Fox, Richard Carlson (Don’t Sweat the Small Stuff & You Can Be Happy No Matter What), and Debbie Ford (Courage). I will probably read Debbie Ford’s Courage again and when I do I’ll be sure to keep a journal as I participate in the exercises of the text.
There were two books (I purchased them as e-books via Kindle) that aren’t well known but very enjoyable and I highly recommend, The Seven Victories of the Divine Child: Claiming Your Divine Inheritance (Michael Jones) and Confessions of a Prayer Slacker (Diane Moody).
Michael’s The Seven Victories of the Divine Child covers many topics I have previously read by other authors. They include the higher and lower selves, fear & love, and how our thoughts determine our circumstances. The difference with Michael’s writing is that it is a down to earth read with him teaching the reader how to overcome the lower self through seven victories. The book is organized that you can go back to read those chapters over and over until being your higher self is a more natural occurrence than being your lower self.
Diane’s Confession of a Prayer Slacker is the most honest book about personal spirituality I have read. She does not hold back the reasons that many of us use to avoid prayer — disciplined, daily prayer. Her sense of humor lightens the guilt that many of us have and keeps us further from prayer. In fact, through her writing I have forgiven myself for this short coming and have learned that we can begin anew each day. I have managed to put together a prayer journal as she suggests. Now the challenge will be to put it to use for I believe I have been more of a prayer slacker than Diane has ever claimed.
I have stumbled through Pamela Grout’s E-Squared: Nine Do-It-Yourself Energy Experiments That Prove Your Thoughts Create Your Reality. Her genuine, humorous narrative makes a great read. I’m stuck on the one experiment involving a wire hanger (the only experiment requiring any equipment). I have very little clothing that needs dry cleaning, so getting a wire hanger is creating a challenge now but I suppose I can move on to the other experiments and go back when I do find a wire hanger.
In the meantime, a few more books caught my attention that I had to make a part of my collection. Two of those books I ended up reading are Jump and Your Life Will Appear (Nancy Levin) and Angels of Abundance (Doreen Virtue & Grant Virtue). I have read through both of these once but I am going through them each again like a school textbook. Each of these books has lessons to guide you through the change of thought or rewiring of your brain that it takes to make a major change in your life and from lack to abundance.
Up until this time I’ve felt that I had been in a spiritual fog and there were some days I didn’t think I was going to come out of it. I believe when all else fails…read, keep reading, and then read a little more. Eventually the fog will lift and the light will shine.
